Kerry is Walsworth's Mail Service Manager and has more than 20 years of domestic and international mailing experience. Kerry is a Michigan State University alumn and a graduate of the USPS Periodicals Professional course. In addition to speaking at the National Postal Forum, Mailcom, and other events around the country, he has written articles for several industry publications. He has also served on the MTAC Periodicals Product Redesign and the FSS Addressing Workgroups.

Postage Rate Changes Slated for January 21

November 13 Update
The Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC) announced on November 10, 2017, that it has approved the rate changes as submitted by the United States Postal Service (USPS).

What's happening?
On October 6th, the United States Postal Service (USPS) filed notice with the Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC) of postage rate changes slated to take effect Jan. 21, 2018.

In the notice, USPS is requesting an average postage rate increase of approximately 1.9% across all classes and categories of mail. Note that this increase is an average, however. If the proposal is approved as is, some classes and types of mail would experience a rate decrease, while others would see rate increases above 4%.

Postage Rate Update: Cuts Set For April 10

What's Happening?
During the past few weeks, much has been written about postage rates decreasing on April 10, 2016.

You may recall that the last postage rate increase in January 2014 was actually comprised of two separate components:

  1. The familiar Consumer Price Index (CPI) increase.
  2. An "exigent" rate increase. Think of this as a “difficult times” increase.
