At Walsworth, I am a buyer for outside services and material. I have worked in Customer Service, preview planning, cover layout, text layout and operated as a cover lead.
I would describe my day-to-day work as like a cat in a hot skillet! I am all over the place with the way the market is now. You must be on your toes or you’re out of luck.
I have been at Walsworth for 40 years come May 11. The market for getting a job at the time was tough and I was thankful to Jim Pippenger, who hired me and one other person after around 40 interviews. Since I was a graphic art major, I was hoping I would fit right in. The other person he hired is still working here as well! Guess he was a good judge of workers.
What I love most about my position is that I get to look at creative ideas and how they might work in a customer product. If it is odd or weird, then I am your girl. I love thinking in 3D!
If I had a personalized coffee mug at work, it would say “Don’t ask if you don’t want the truth!” Although, most of my cups are Kansas City Chiefs.
I come to work each day because I like buying and doing things for my kids and grandkids and this job lets me have that option. It’s more than a paycheck, though. I feel that I have been in the printing industry so long you could cut me and I’d bleed ink.
A fun fact about me is I am the last of seven children, with a 25-year difference between the oldest and myself.
My husband Jeff and I have been married for almost 40 years. We got married just two months after I started here. We have two kids, Jeffery and Tiffany, along with four grandkids ages three to nine – Alexia, Levi, Kyria, and AJ – all with very different personalities. We have two dogs, a 13-year-old Yorkie Min-pin mix named Izzy (she has attitude and runs the house), and a 17-year-old rescue mini-Dachshund named Mandy Jo. I also have a three-legged cat, Maybelline, and her sister, Rebbie, named after my late sister Reba. She once told me she wanted to be a cat in her next life, so I made her wish come true.
Outside of work, I love being a grandma and watching KC Chiefs and St. Louis Cardinals games. I love to shop, go to the movies, make crafts, play bunco and take day trips with my sisters or girlfriends.
After working at Walsworth for 40 years, Walsworth has touched every facet of my life. The good days and the bad days are all a part of making a living and having a career, but when you work with people for so many years, they become your family. I am looking forward to having a good retirement and spending more time doing volunteer work.
When my kids were young, I always helped with school events and loved it. Proms were my favorite, which is the art major in me. I loved working the concession stands for fundraisers. I was a Girl Scout leader for 13 years for my daughter when she was in kindergarten until she graduated high school, and now I’m helping with my granddaughter. Scouting can add a lot of character! My husband and I worked the local Ducks Unlimited for more than 20 years. Now he hosts a youth outdoor event each year at Fountain Grove, and I am right there with him. The kids get to see to nature and play sports, and it’s wonderful to see their eyes light up.
I have many favorite memories here and a few I should not let go to print. One might be when I made a man named Jim Hill turn 20 shades of red. It really was his own fault, he misheard what I said. But we all had a super good laugh on it. He is so dearly missed as those who went before and after him. Remember, I did say co-workers are family, so the heart is sad but with a smile.
